In today’s world, cakes have become an indispensable part of any small event. Once reserved solely for birthdays, they now mark engagements, baby milestones, and other celebratory moments. No small event seems complete without a cake.
Amrita, a housewife from Kozhikode, witnessed this transformation firsthand. Her journey began when fulfilling her son’s simple wish for a cake became her passion. With determination and support from her family, Amrita’s “Ayan’s Cake House” was born.
Hailing from a fisherman’s family, Amrita’s life was anchored by the sea. Her father and father-in-law, both fishermen, weathered the elements to sustain their families and contribute to the nation’s economy, much like soldiers guarding the borders. Inspired by their resilience and a desire to support her family financially, Amrita worked even after marriage. She completed her VHSE in Civil Construction and Maintenance, followed by a Diploma in Interior Design with Civil Engineering from ITI. She then worked as an interior designer for six years.
However, her career took an unexpected turn during the COVID-19 pandemic. With life on hold, Amrita found solace in baking. Encouraged by her father’s younger brother to transform this hobby into a business, she began baking cakes for sale. The trend of home baking during the pandemic provided the perfect backdrop for her new venture. Inspired by cake-making videos on social media, Amrita’s business quickly gained traction. Orders poured in, and she soon found herself earning a substantial income.
Supporting her family financially became a significant achievement for Amrita, fulfilling her dream of working in a field related to her studies. Despite living in her family home, she dreams of owning her own house someday.
Ayan’s Cake House quickly became known for its high-quality products. Wancho Cakes, the most produced and best-selling items, are always in high demand. Another popular offering, the Dream Cake, is competitively priced between Rs 200 and Rs 250, but at Ayan’s Cake House, it’s available for just Rs 150.
Amrita’s story is one of resilience, passion, and entrepreneurial spirit. As she looks to the future, her goal is to expand Ayan’s Cake House further by diversifying her range of cakes. Her journey from a fisherman’s family to a successful business owner is a testament to the power of determination and family support.
